The Continuing Adventures of Magna-Maid and the League of Heroines

III. Alliances

"So, that's the story." Daphne King sat at a large conference table in the secret headquarters building of the League of Heroines. Her colorful Magna-Maid costume had been exchanged for a plain white blouse and dark skirt; her long, dark hair was tied back in a simple ponytail, and a pair of large tortoiseshell glasses completed her transformation. Her listeners, of course, knew all about her secret identity: most of them had at least one of their own.

"But, Daphne, I thought if you were bound by a man, ALL your Amazon strength left you. How did you survive?" The speaker was a tall, athletic young woman in a form-fitting blue leotard with a red cape trailing behind. Silky golden hair floated past her shoulders.

"Well, Power Blonde, I was very lucky. Since they didn't actually tie the wires around my body directly, but around the canvas, I wasn't affected."

"I'm glad to hear you made use of some of the escape tricks I taught you; with your Amazon powers, I wasn't sure if you'd ever need them." The Flying Fox smiled beneath the dark cowl that covered most of her face. "Those of us without any real super powers sometimes feel at a loss in this company." Daphne laughed at this: everyone knew that the fiery redhead in the bat-like costume was worth her weight in gold for her ingenuity and tenacity.

"It seems to me that the question now is: will she go to her sisters for their help, or will she try and keep Daphne's artifacts for herself?" The speaker was a shapely brunette dressed in a skin-tight adaptation of a stage magician's tuxedo. "If the three of them combine the strength of all their criminal organizations, they would be the most formidable threat our League has ever faced."

"You're so right, Spellina," responded Daphne. "No offense to the three of you, but I sure wish all the other members of the League were here to help, instead of facing who knows what kind of perils on their mission outside our Solar System!"

"It seems clear to me," said Power Blonde, "that the answer is to strike at all three of them before they can unite. We must move quickly. Spellina, the Queen of Hearts' mental powers can best be neutralized by your magic. Fox, an investigator of your abilities is needed to track down what the Queen of Diamonds is up to with Daphne's things. I will take care of the Queen of Clubs, myself. I'm long overdue for a showdown with that musclebound bimbo." Daphne cringed. Power Blonde was well-known for charging right into a situation without thinking it through; she guessed that her incredible powers, superior even to Magna-Maid's own, made her a little reckless. Or, maybe she just wasn't all that bright.

"Daphne, you help the Flying Fox recover your costume pieces. Let's get going. There's no time to lose!" With that, Power Blonde was gone through window, a streak of blue and red, with gold hair streaming behind her.

"Well, girls," said Flying Fox, "I guess if the chief says go, we go."

"How very interesting." The redheaded woman smiled cruelly as she watched the figure of Power Blonde in flight on the laptop computer monitor. "And you planted the camera yourself?"

"It was easy."

The Queen of Diamonds was sitting in her sumptuously furnished study, carefully watching the young woman with the computer. She was a sturdy-looking blonde, and she wore the most extraordinary costume: it was a near-replica of the bat-like outfit worn by the Flying Fox; this girl, though, did not wear a full cowl over her head, but a bat-winged domino mask around her eyes. The Queen idly wondered how it stayed in place.

"When that redheaded rat who calls herself the Flying Fox agreed to see me, they all spent so much time trying to humor me while actually checking up on me that they hardly noticed anything I was doing. So, if you and your sisters can capture the members of the League of Heroines, I can step in and assume my rightful place as the real Flying Fox!" A real lunatic, more likely, thought the Queen. Still, this heroine-obsessed youngster had brought her valuable information. There was no question, now, that she and her sisters must unite to take on these heroines. A quick conference call later, and her plan was in place.

"You all understand, then? Power Blonde's plan to face us one at a time will receive a slight adjustment. Hearts, I think that your powers of sexual stimulation might be very amusing if used against that repressed prig the Flying Fox."

"So-called 'Flying Fox'," piped up the blonde.

"Yes, of course. My dear, why don't you go with my sister as she casts her sensual spell on that… uh… imposter. And, how interesting that Miss Daphne King should turn out to be our old adversary, Magna-Maid. I'm sure the two of you can pop one or two of the buttons on that starchy shirt she was wearing. Clubs, I know you would love to have a return engagement with Power Blonde, but indulge me this once and put a few licks on Spellina, instead. She won't be expecting to face your power, and should provide you with no real trouble. As for myself," she smiled, "with Magna-Maid's lasso, I will teach Power Blonde a lesson or two in submission. Sisters, the vast resources of my organization are at your disposal. Take all the henchmen and weapons you need. Let's meet back here tonight with our collection of captured crimefighters, and spend a lovely evening devising fiendish torments for them." Wicked laughter ended the conference call.
